10. Grease Lightning's Adoption

Grease Lightning came to Liberty Humane Society as a stray in May. At first sight, Grease Lightning looked a little scary. Not only did he have two different colored eyes, but his sparse black and white coat was completely covered in a greasy product. After cleaning him off, LHS ran multiple tests to try to determine what caused him to have such a sparse coat that almost made him look like part cat, part pig. Test after test came back negative for any underlying cause so we assumed that this was just going to be a permanent part of his unique look.

When Grease Lightning finally made it to the adoption floor, he made his presence known to volunteers and visitors alike by doing his signature screaming noise when he wanted attention. He quickly became a volunteer favorite since he loved nothing more than to be carried around like a baby. He even learned how to walk on a leash and became a model for our Christmas photo shoot!

Grease Lightning sat for months in the front lobby literally screaming at potential adopters. Finally, a woman came in looking to adopt two cats in late-December. After spending some time in the cattery, an LHS staff member directed her to Grease Lightning who was living in the lobby kennels. While he doesn’t really get along with other cats, his exuberant and loving personality more than made up for having multiple cats in a household. His adopter spent hours in the lobby just cuddling with him on a chair. She fell so in love with him that she decided to adopt him on the spot.
